About Us
The Task Force, headed by Major General Peter Arnison AC CVO (Ret’d), comprises the Mayors of communities affected by the proposed Traveston Crossing and Wyaralong dams and the Directors-General of 5 key Government departments.
The Task Force helps communities affected by the proposed dams by:
- addressing the immediate effects on individuals and communities arising from the proposals to build the dams,
- developing strategies to maximise the longer term opportunities presented by the proposed dams,
- undertaking community engagement in the Task Force work program and provide regular information to the community, and
- developing community and government linkages to address issues and impacts.
The mayors bring an important local perspective to the work of the Task Force and play a critical role by:
- informing the Chair and other Task Force members of issues arising with individual constituents and issues arising regionally,
- contributing to land use and infrastructure planning and other key activities, and
- assisting in identifying and realising medium-to-long-term economic, social and other development opportunities for their shires.
The Directors-General ensure their departments meet their responsibilities, implement projects identified in the Task Force work program and respond to issues identified by the mayors and through individual and community consultations.
